This is a blog about the early medieval history of Govan. Here I intend to gather information relating to the ancient stones in the old parish church and the period in which they were carved (c.870 to c.1100). The scope of the project extends beyond Govan to other places where crosses and other monuments show sculptural features characteristic of the ‘Govan School’ of stonecarving. Additional topics include conservation, heritage tourism and the role of the stones in present-day Govan.
